A maternity session is really a chance to make a freeze frame of your family right before it grows by one (or two, or three…) more. Even if it’s just the two of you, it’s so important to take some time to be still together, to soak up this moment as you’re getting ready to start something so new and amazing together.
And of course, if you already have kids, it’s a chance to be present with them and to see them getting ready to start their own new journey as a big brother or sister. I know for me, I wanted to soak up every second of my daughter before our new baby arrived. She is my first baby, she made me a mother for the first time, and she will always hold a special place in my heart.
We had our morning photo shoot in the gardens at Pennsylvania Hospital, a well kept secret in the neighborhood that a lot of folks walk by every day, never stopping to explore what’s behind those big brick walls. Philadelphia is full of little places like that, and that’s partly why I love being a photographer in this beautiful city. I was so excited for Tiffany and Johnny to have their maternity session in a place that held special meaning for them, since they had their wedding photos and Victor’s newborn photos taken here.
One of the things that I love photographing families is catching how they look at each other and showing them how they’re giving off so much loving warmth without even saying anything.
Isn’t Victor the most gorgeous little boy?! Look at those amazing blue eyes, and how much he so clearly adores his sweet mama…
One of my favorite images that I’ve ever taken; just a simple portrait of a little boy, only concerned with collecting sticks.
And of course, a rare quiet moment for mom. It’s not easy to take time for yourself when you’re pregnant, let alone already mama to an energetic toddler. But that makes it all the more important to do, even if just to appreciate how hard you’re working and to take a deep breath.
Oh, so many kisses and giggles =)
Proud papa doesn’t even begin to describe how in love he is with his family, you can see it in his eyes. As we were walking out, he asked me if I knew how incredible Tiffany is, and then proceeded to tell me all of the things he finds amazing about her. There’s really nothing better than a family full of so much love.
Your first baby is always your baby, am I right?
Can you tell dad has a special sense of humor? These two are so different in so many ways, but work together so well.
Thank you, guys, for a wonderful morning and one of my all time favorite sessions. Looking forward to meeting baby sister and seeing your family’s love grow even more!
