It’s cold and rainy here in Philly, so what better to do on a dreary Saturday than puzzle time with Daddy! My husband’s a CPA, so we don’t see a lot of him January through April. But with another Tax Day behind us, my kids have found new excitement in showing Daddy all of their favorite things. For Tobin, it’s smoothies, or “foofies” as he calls them and I hope he always will! For Aliza, it’s puzzles, and when I suggested she show Seth her new states puzzle she exclaimed “Oh, that’s a great idea!” and couldn’t get the box out fast enough. As they were getting set up on the floor she asked me to join them, and I said I was going to go get my camera. So my smart, funny girl turned to Daddy and said “Mommy’s going to take pictures of us doing this puzzle. That’s her thing.”
Sometimes I forget how big my baby girl is getting, but at times like this it’s impossible to ignore. When she was a baby, Seth had actually said he imagined one day doing puzzles with his kids like he did when he was little. And here she is, sitting on the floor with her dad, sounding out the names of the states and telling him where the pieces fit together, explaining to him that they should find all of the water first and then start with the big pieces. So often now Seth and I will look at each other and marvel at how amazing it is to hear all of the things she has to say and how grown up she’s sounding. Of course it’s never too long before she has a tantrum about something, quickly reassuring us that she still has a lot of growing to do.
These are the simple, every day moments I love so dearly. Make sure to continue through the “This Is Us” blog circle to see how these other, lovely photographers are capturing these moments with their families.
