South Philly Maternity Session

So you want an in-home maternity session, but you live in one of Philadelphia’s iconic row homes and think it will be too dark…

Think again!

First of all, my favorite place to photograph a family is in their home. You’re so much more relaxed, you can wear whatever you’re comfortable in, you can just be yourselves so much more easily in the comfort of your home.

Fun colors and beautiful light in the kitchen? Let’s do it!

Cool lines and shadows on the stairs? Just trust me πŸ˜‰

Want to pop outside at the end and throw your shades on? Go for it!

Martha and Dan were so much fun to work with. They’d had a long road to parenthood, and wanted to celebrate this special phase in their lives, waiting for their little one to arrive. They wanted a session that was nice and low pressure, just hanging out at home with their dog, Harvey.

Like a good older sibling, Harvey stole much of the show, as is his right before the new baby takes all the focus πŸ˜„ We spent some time hanging out in the living room, and the kitchen, which both had so much of the couples’ personality everywhere. Cute rugs, colorful light fixtures, funky art, and lots of gorgeous plants.

The window light upstairs was just perfect, and Martha looked so gorgeous snuggling with her pup and her awesome belly. And then I had then sit on the stairs for a while because I just loved the cool light and shadows there! It was the perfect place for them to snuggle up close, and I’m only sorry we don’t have a shot of me leaning over the railing to get my shots.

A quick pop outside to enjoy the mild August Philly weather, and it was a wrap! Stay tuned for this cute family’s newborn session…
