Urban Jungle Family Session - Philadelphia PA Portrait Photographer

When this mama contacted me about doing a photo session for her family, she had two specific requests: could we shoot on their roof deck, and could I incorporate the urban beauty of their neighborhood. Yes and yes! Philadelphia has so much character, and for this family, who have chosen to live in the city, they wanted their portraits to reflect where they are raising their children. When these boys look back at their family photos, they'll see the vibrant city where they grew up, went to school, had relationships and amazing experiences. She actually put it perfectly, when I asked her what she had envisioned for their photo session: "I'd like to capture a bit of the city, which is hard to avoid when you live in the middle of it! My husband and I both grew up in the country but have chosen to make Philly our home. I'd like a photograph that will always show them where they grew up... Philadelphia has a lot of charm, no matter how gritty, on every block."So up to the roof we went, and they had the most amazing view of the Philadelphia skyline is one of the most beautiful, in my humble, totally not biased opinion. We were lucky to get a nice dramatic sky that evening, with lots of cool clouds to accent the sunset and the gorgeous urban backdrop for this sweet family. They had such a chill, relaxed attitude, and little brother Bowie blessed us with some of the greatest, nonsensical jokes I've ever heard. You've got to love five year olds' sense of humor, right? ;)Then it was off for a walk through the neighborhood. East Passyunk is just one of Philly's many eclectic neighborhoods, and it was the perfect setting for this cool family of four. Everyone made wishes in the fountain at Passyunk Square, though it was no question that mom had the most awesome over the back shot. And I make no secret of my love for the Isaiah Zagar mosaics hidden around every corner of this part of the city, the crocheted claw foot tables we found on this particular corner were just an awesome bonus. I love that they were excited to capture this age their boys are at right now. Most of us will think to schedule a photo session when our kids are little, but there are just as many special moments to preserve as our children get older, and the moments go by just as quickly!Big brother looks contemplative peering over the house rooftops at the Philly skyline - Philadelphia PA Urban Family Portrait PhotographyFamily of four with two sons stand together on their home's rooftop during sunset with the Philly skyline in the background - Philadelphia PA Urban Family Portrait PhotographerFamily of four with two sons stand together on their home's rooftop during sunset with the Philly skyline in the background - Philadelphia PA Urban Family Portrait PhotographerHusband and wife laugh and embrace on their rooftop overlooking the Philly skyline at sunset - Philadelphia PA Urban Family Portrait PhotographerHusband and wife kiss and embrace on their rooftop overlooking the Philly skyline at sunset - Philadelphia PA Urban Family Portrait PhotographyTwo brothers embrace and pose for the camera standing on their rooftop at sunsetHusband and wife laugh and embrace on their rooftop overlooking the Philly skyline at sunset - Philadelphia PA Urban Family Portrait PhotographerBig brother and little brother pose for a portrait on their house rooftop - Philadelphia PA Urban Family Portrait PhotographerFamily of four makes each other laugh posing on their house rooftop during sunset - Philadelphia PA Urban Family Portrait PhotographyBrothers laugh at each other's jokes while parents enjoy watching - Philadelphia PA Urban Family Portrait PhotographLittle brother tells a crazy joke to make his parents and big brother laugh - Philadelphia PA Urban Family Portrait PhotographerMom Dad little brother and big brother enjoy each other and laugh on their house rooftop during sunset - Philadelphia PA Urban Family Portrait PhotographerBrothers race down the street while mom and dad hold hands and walk behind them, mom tosses a coin backwards into a wishing well - Philadelphia PA Urban Family Documentary PhotographyMom holds sons close and looks lovingly at them - Philadelphia PA Urban Family Portrait PhotographyBrothers smile at each other standing on an empty fountain, family of four pose in front of Isaiah Zagar mosaic - Philadelphia PA Urban Family Portrait PhotographerIt was such a pleasure spending an evening with this groovy foursome, exploring what makes their family and their neighborhood so amazing.
