Philadelphia Birth Photographer, home birth of Emanuel Moon

Jordyn and her husband Jonathan were planning a home birth for their second baby, due mid January this year. Jordyn is not only a friend and yoga student of mine, but also happens to be an amazing birth doula in her own right. And as we neared her guess date, and days of start-stop contractions came and went, this mama kept her cool. We'd have fun conversations about how amazing women's bodies are, and how so much of birth is such a mystery. But when I got the text from her early Monday morning around 6am that contractions had started up again, this time it felt like things were getting serious. Another text at 830am that the midwives were on their way to check on her, and I started getting ready to go. When I got the text around 10am from someone using Jordyn's phone that she was 7cm and contractions every few minutes, I was out the door in no time!
As soon as I arrived I could hear Jordyn working hard. I ran upstairs and found her in the birth tub, surrounded by her husband, Jonathan, and her three midwives from Midwifery Traditions. Through every wave of intensity, Jordyn's birth team gave her calm and loving support. After working for a while in the tub, Jordyn moved to labor in the bathroom with her doula, Joy. Watching these two women, these two doulas, these two mothers, working together to get through each contraction was so beautiful to witness.
Finally, Jordyn was ready to move to the bedroom to finish bringing her baby earthside. Midwife Kathy got on the bed with her, and gave so much strength and comfort to Jordyn through the most intense moments of her delivery. Later, Jordyn commented that she must have been pushing for at least 2 hours, but in reality it was only about 20 minutes, and she did an incredible job. Just as the head was crowning, Jonathan came around to catch. As he held his baby's head, he told his wife that he felt the little cheeks and chin, and it gave Jordyn the last bit of strength she needed to bring her new son out and into the world. All 10lbs, 2ozs of him! Jordyn's first birth had been a home birth transfer, and as she and Jonathan lay in bed with their new son, she took a moment to celebrate that she had gotten the home birth she had hoped for. It was such an honor for me to be a part of this birth team of women who encircled this new little family of four with so much love and support. It would be an honor to document your little one's birth day. If you’d like to chat with Rachel about capturing your baby’s birth story, please be in touch.
