Last Days as a Family of Three, Philadelphia Maternity Photographer

When I asked this mom what she was hoping to get out of our maternity session, she said she wanted to capture their last days as a family of three, playing with their daughter, a little slice of life before baby sister arrived. Music to my ears! Every time a new baby enters the family, things shift a bit, new relationships, new dynamics. Especially when you're going from one kid to two, that big sibling has a big adjustment to make, no longer being the center of mom and dad's attention. So maternity sessions with big siblings hold a special place in my heart, because creating a lasting memory of this time for them feels particularly special. And so we did just that! It often takes kids a little while to warm up to having someone taking photos, so we took that time to let her snuggle on the couch with mama. Isn't it amazing how little kids fit so perfectly around the baby belly? There isn't much that's sweeter than a toddler curled around mama's belly giving baby a hug. By the time we went up to mom and dad's room she was up to her normal shenanigans. Lots of giggles, and some peekaboo while mom and dad had a quiet moment together. We made our way into big sister's sun-filled room, and though the tickles from dad and story time with mom were super cute, I'm a sucker for a mama wiping the hair out of her child's face. That simple, sweet gesture always gets me.We ended this maternity session downstairs in the living room, with some of sweet and silly family portraits. A few more kisses for the belly, a few more solo shots for the soon to be big sister, and we got their "cranky old man" dog in a few pictures, because fur babies need their moment too! When it comes down to it, maternity portraits are family portraits, just of a family in transition. And catching those special moments before a family grows again is one of my very favorite things <3 Stay tuned for this beautiful family's newborn session!
