Natural light, sweet family of three, Philadelphia Portrait Photographer

Being a family photographer in Philadelphia, a city of the row homes with small windows, I'm used to working with whatever little bit of natural light I can find in the house. Every once in a while, though, I'll get lucky with a big window like this, and with a huge window seat as a bonus! Even though it was pretty gloomy in Philly that day, this bedroom was full of beautiful, natural light. And with a sweet little family like this, that was all we needed to have a fun session together. Well, that, and a few stuffed bunnies. This mom and dad wanted to capture a bit of what life looked like as their daughter was getting ready to turn one year old. Making it through that first year of life is no joke. It can be some of the most amazing and most challenging moments as a new parent. And commemorating this milestone with photos that show a little slice of life for this family was such a special way to celebrate making it through the first year together. So much about these photos feels so familiar about that time with a one year old; the still chubby face and fingers, the wobbly walking, the drool. And did I mention this little girl's amazing blue eyes? She did not like to sit still, and she didn't really like to be held still in one place for much longer than a quick hug and kiss, so aside from a quick reading break with her favorite book, we spent most of our time together chasing her around the house.Just as we were wrapping up our time together, and dad went downstairs to start lunch, I caught a few of just the girls together in the window light. The portraits of this fiery little girl with her mama, laughing together, sharing a sweet snuggle, ended up being some of my favorite of the whole morning. And that's what's so wonderful about these unposed, natural light sessions; I'm never sure what's going to happen when I arrive, but I know I'm getting the chance to create images of those important, fleeting, little moments that capture this time in life for this family.
