Family tea party for four, big sister welcomes new sibling, Philadelphia Newborn Photographer

When your first baby becomes a big sibling for the first time, there are lots of ways you can prepare them. But there's really no way to prepare yourself for how much older and bigger they're suddenly going to seem. That's what Jess told me was the biggest surprise for her when her daughter came to meet her new baby brother. "I swear she grew so much in one day! Now I feel like I am getting to know her as a more responsible and interesting child instead of my toddler/baby." I knew that feeling so well, and felt the same way! I swore she'd had a growth spurt overnight, her hands looked so much bigger compared to this new baby.Watching siblings create a relationship is one of the best parts about having kids, and these two were off to a good start already when I came to meet the new baby brother. As is often the case when there's a big sibling, during this newborn session we spent a lot of time focusing on the big sister. She treated us all to a tea party in her room, which was probably one of the sweetest things I've ever gotten to photograph. We of course took some time on mommy and daddy's bed for some shenanigans, some jumping, and lots of kisses and laughs. And when she climbed into the window of baby brother's room, I just couldn't get over how perfectly she fit in the window sill and how cute she looked trying to catch dust "fairies" in the sunlight. Not to worry though, with a baby this cute, we also spent a good amount of time marveling over his tiny little fingers and toes, his wonderfully scrawny newborn legs and arms, his big yawns, and those wide blue eyes. Seeing him all curled up on dad's chest, or sleeping in mom's arms, really showed just how small he still was. It has been so much fun watching this wonderful family grow, from their maternity photos a few months before, to now with their foursome. It's going to be so amazing to see these siblings grow up together!
